More formally Santiago de Surco, this is a very large district with several different socio-economic areas.

The most expensive, family oriented and perceived to be safest areas in Surco include Chacarilla, Las Casuarinas, and Monterrico, home of the massive U.S. Embassy. 

Being centrally located and having less humidity than the coastal districts, many families choose Surco for this reason.  It is commonly believed that children are less prone to sickness in this drier climate.

Surco hosts the prestigious Los Inkas Golf Club and 3 of the best shopping malls in Lima. Caminos Del Inca, El Polo - across form the U.S. Embassy, and the massive Jockey Plaza, which in addition to endless shopping opportunities, features Divercity, a miniature city for Kids 3 to 13.

Universidad de Lima and Universidad Ricardo Palma, two of Perú's best universities, as well as the primary and secondary schools of Hiram Bingham, Colegio Peruano Britanico, and the lower school of Markham, call Surco their home.

4-time winner of the title "Garden District," Surco is known for its green areas. Parque de la Amistad, or Friendship Park, with it's Moorish styled, Arco Morisco is of notable mention. The arch pictured here is a gift from Spain, inaugurated by the Spanish King upon the opening of the park in 2001. The park also features a pond with ducks and paddleboats, a small steam train, a playground and several food vendors. A perfect place for a family day out, but resultantly often quite crowded.

Home to Museo de Oro y Armas or "Gold Museum," Surco also hosts the annual festival of the Pisco Sour, Perú's famed national spirit, held over a weekend at the end of January or the beginning of February.
