Lima is both the name of the province with a total of 43 different districts, as well as the name of the city itself, which containing 30 of these "distritos", make up Metropolitan Lima. The remaining 13 districts are outlaying and are either mountainous rural desert or beach areas.

Of the 30 urban districts, those most popular as residential areas for expats include Miraflores, San Isidro, Barranco, Surco, San Borja and La Molina.
